Gulf of Despair - USA
May 21, 2012
Toxic legacy of BP disaster lives on To see more go to www.youtube.com Follow us on Facebook (goo.gl or Twitter (www.twitter.com Two years after the Gulf of Mexico disaster BP say the area is back in business. But in reality oil is washing up on the beaches, local residents are falling ill and the peak of the crisis is yet to come. "We are glad to report all beaches and waters are open", states BP in a new advertising campaign. For the oil company business can resume as normal, but for the communities whose livelihoods rely upon the waters around the Gulf of Mexico business could not be worse: "there are no oysters growing so our future is very uncertain". Moreover, many locals who volunteered during the clear up are now suffering potentially fatal health problems caused by toxins in the chemical BP used to disperse the oil, Corexit 9527. "They are having breathing problems, headaches, breaking out in rashes, asthma...", explains a community worker, Glenda Perryman. And there could still be a wider threat to human health; strong evidence suggests the oil has got into the food chain. "We're finding it in larger quantities over a one-year period after the spill, so it's bio-accumulating. It's going to impact on generations to come", says Wilma Subra, an environmental scientist. As with the Exxon Valdez disaster in Alaska, it will take a few more years before the real impact of this spill is felt. For those in the locality, that may be too late: "I don't know if I am living ...

Jesse Ventura leads his team into the bayou where they investigate claims of a plot to depopulate Louisiana and turn it into America's refinery. At the core: the government's alleged secret, multi-billion dollar depopulation program that began in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and was kicked into Phase Two with the oil rig blast. illuminati.me.pn

Coastal pollution fears after Nigeria oil spill
Mar 30, 2012
www.euronews.net Those living along Nigeria's coastline said on Monday that officials are not doing enough to clean up last month's deep sea oil spill. Thirteen coastal villages are thought to have been affected by the incident at Shell's Bonga oil field on December 20th. Environmental groups said local beaches have been coated with black sludge and drinking water has been polluted. Shell shut down its oil platform following the spill. Is the $7.8 Billion BP Oil Spill Settlement a Bad Deal For Gulf Residents and Businesses?
May 04, 2012
democracynow.org - Investigative journalists Greg Palast and Antonia Juhasz examine who wins and who loses in BP's settlement. "[BP's] basically being told, like a bank robber -- you put the money back and everything will be forgiven," says Palast, who also investigated the Exxon Valdez settlement. Meanwhile, state and federal governments are still pursuing separate civil claims against BP for environmental damage. "That's when we're going to hopefully uncover those 72-million pages of investigation that will include wrong doing not just by BP, not just by Transocean, not just by Halliburton, but by every major oil company involved offshore, and very likely based on my research, wrongdoing by the Obama administration," says Juhasz. "It is a desire to keep that out of the public that has pushed the settlement process forward." We also speak with Florida State University Oceanography Professor Ian MacDonald about what it means to restore the Gulf of Mexico. In the wake of the oil spill, BP pledged up to $500 million over a decade to conduct independent scientific research on the environmental effects. But MacDonald notes that, "When the oil was gushing, there were literally hundreds of ships ... studying this disaster. Now as we try to learn what happened, and prepare ourselves for the next catastrophe, we have nothing like those kinds of resources present."
